संतों, ओ मेळो है भाव रो
A country that appears in the desert for three days, then goes.
For years, Rajasthan Kabir Yatra carried this spirit across the state, moving from place to place — this year, the yatra is on hold, with more news to come in time but not in 2026, and that same spirit gathers instead, in one place, for three days: Jashn-e-Kabira, at Fort Pokhran, in the Thar desert.
Singers from Rajasthan, Kutch, Punjab, Sindh and further come together for this gathering to sing the nirgun repertoire — Kabir, Meera, Gorakhnath, Bulleh Shah, Bhitai, Khusro — voices that have carried love, longing, and truth across centuries. Artists, sufis, yatris, mystics, thinkers, and seekers sing and live this wisdom together, in Jashn-e-Kabira.
Why Pokhran
Most of India knows Pokhran for its nuclear tests. But for millions of pilgrims, it has meant something else for centuries — the home of Ramdevji, the local deity who welcomes people from every community, walked to on foot each year in faith and need. Jashn-e-Kabira gathers in that older Pokhran — the one that has always opened its arms to whoever arrives.

Jashn-e-Kabira is held at The Fort Pokaran, in Pokhran town, Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan — on the road and rail line that runs between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, roughly midway. It is a small desert town, not a transit hub, so a little planning goes a long way. Here is what we’ve verified.
Quickest and most convenient options
-
Flying in? Land at Jodhpur or Jaisalmer and take a car from there — there is no closer airport, and no public transport that will get you the rest of the way.
-
Coming by train? Book to Pokran (POK) station if you can. It is the closest of the three stations on this stretch of line to the fort — about 1.3 km away from the venue, a five-minute auto ride.
-
Driving? You’ll almost certainly arrive via NH125 (from Jodhpur) or NH11 (from Jaisalmer, Bikaner, or Delhi) — both good, well-marked national highways.
-
Whatever you choose, arrange your onward transport in advance. This matters more here than at a city venue.
🚆 By train
Three stations serve Pokhran: Pokaran (POK), Ramdevra (RDRA), and Ashapura Gomat (AQG), all on the Jodhpur–Jaisalmer line.
-
Pokaran (POK) is the one to aim for. It sits inside the town, about 1.3 km — a short auto or taxi ride — from the venue, with a taxi stand right at the station.
-
Ramdevra (RDRA), about 8–10 km away, actually carries more named express and superfast trains, since it also serves pilgrim traffic to the Baba Ramdevji shrine. If your most convenient train happens to stop at Ramdevra and not Pokaran, it’s still a good option — just plan for a slightly longer taxi ride, ideally arranged ahead of time.
-
Ashapura Gomat (AQG), about 5 km away, is the smallest of the three, with the fewest services. Only use it if neither of the other two works for your route.
Named trains that run this corridor include the Jodhpur–Jaisalmer Express family, the Ranikhet/Corbett Park Link Express, the Runicha Express, the Swarn Nagari Express, the Sabarmati Superfast Express, and the Mumbai (Bandra Terminus)–Jaisalmer Superfast Express — schedules and which of these calls where can shift, so check current timings on IRCTC or a booking site close to your travel date rather than relying on any list, including this one.
🚗 By road
-
From Jodhpur (~173 km, roughly 3.5–4 hours): take NH125 via Osian and Dechu. This is the most-used route in and out, and is generally smooth, well-marked highway.
-
From Jaisalmer (~111 km, roughly 2–2.5 hours): also via NH125, in the other direction.
-
From Bikaner (~185–225 km) or Delhi (~796 km, roughly 13–14 hours): NH11 runs Jaisalmer–Pokaran–Phalodi–Bikaner and on toward Delhi NCR — the natural route if you’re coming from that direction.
-
From Jaipur (~459 km), Udaipur (~410–420 km), Ahmedabad (~612 km), or Mumbai (~1,142 km): all of these are long single drives (8 hours and up) — most people from these cities will do better flying into Jodhpur or Jaisalmer, or taking the train, rather than driving straight through.
🚌 By bus
-
Jodhpur ↔ Pokhran: RSRTC runs about 12 buses a day (07:30–17:30), roughly 3 hours 20 minutes for the ~200 km trip.
-
Jaisalmer ↔ Pokhran: RSRTC runs about 14 buses a day (05:50–16:50), roughly 1 hour 40 minutes for the ~100 km trip.
-
From further away (Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad and beyond), buses do run, but timetables for these longer routes change often enough that we’d rather send you to check current listings on RSRTC’s own site or a booking aggregator than print a schedule here that might be out of date by December.
✈️ By air
-
Jaisalmer Airport (JSA) is about 123 km from the venue by road (2–2.5 hours once you add the drive from Pokaran to Jaisalmer). It has direct flights on Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet from Delhi, and IndiGo also connects Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Mumbai, with a seasonal Bengaluru service.
-
Jodhpur Airport (JDH) is about 175–185 km from the venue (roughly 3.5–4 hours by road). It has a wider network — Air India and IndiGo connect Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Noida, with Air India Express adding Delhi/Mumbai service from September 2026.
-
Which to choose: if you have a direct flight to Jaisalmer that day, it saves you road time. Otherwise, Jodhpur’s larger network usually makes it the more dependable choice — the extra distance is often worth it for a better-timed, more reliable flight.
From the station, bus stand, or airport to the fort
-
From Pokaran station or bus stand: a short (few-minute) auto or taxi ride — both are in town, close to the venue.
-
From Ramdevra or Ashapura Gomat station: arrange a car ahead of time for the 8–12 km transfer — this is quiet, small-town territory without a taxi rank waiting at either platform.
-
From either airport: book your car in advance for the 2–4 hour road transfer. There is no public transport link that reaches this far into the desert.
-
Landmark: the fort sits beside the Pokaran Fort Museum — a recognisable local landmark, even for a driver who doesn’t know the venue by name.

A few practical things to know before you travel
-
This is a small town hosting a large gathering for three days. Local transport — taxis, autos — will be in real demand, especially late in the evening once each night’s programme ends. Book your arrival and departure transport ahead rather than expecting to find a ride on the spot.
-
The Jodhpur–Jaisalmer railway is a single track, which can affect punctuality in both directions — leave some slack around a same-day connection rather than cutting it close.
-
No weather or seasonal road risk is expected for these dates — the region’s monsoon season, which can affect road conditions, falls months earlier in the year.
Travel tip: If you’re unsure which station or route to book, choose whichever gets you to Pokaran railway station or lets you drive the last stretch on NH125. Everything else in this town, including the fort, is close by from there.
